Michelangelo, (VEN) Venice and the Lagoon ex Venice Return

4 nights | CroisiEurope

Overview

4 Night Cruise sailing from Venice roundtrip aboard Michelangelo.

Venice ... admire the natural beauty of its lagoon and its breath-taking panoramas. You will have a chance to visit Padua, a sublime province you will be amazed by, from its architecture to its artistic richnesses that are marked by the medieval times and the Renaissance.

Highlights of this cruise:

Venice
The city of Venice sits at the top of the Adriatic Sea in the north east corner of Italy. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city sits on 118 small islands in the Venetian Lagoon - a salt marsh. In the 12th century Venice became a city state and its location at the top of the Adriatic made it a key naval and commercial centre as well as a flourishing art centre.

Modern Venice is stunning and retains the wonderful history of this unique city. It is a city of museums, galleries, piazzas, palaces, churches and more. One visit isn't enough to see all that Venice has to offer but visitors should try and see the Basilica San Marco and San Marco Square, the Doges Palace and the Gallerie dell'Accademia which houses some of Italy's finest art treasures.

Chioggia
Chioggia is a coastal town and comune of the province of Venice in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The town is situated on a small island at the southern entrance to the Lagoon of Venice about 25 km south of Venice (50 km by road) causeways connect it to the mainland and to the beaches at nearby Sottomarina. In summer, Chioggia makes a good base for exploring Venice.

Chioggia is a miniature version of Venice, with a few canals, chief among them the Canale Vena, and the characteristic narrow streets known as calli. The Corso del Popolo, the wide main street through the heart of the historic center, is a good place for strolling, shopping, or enjoying a drink. The Piazzetta Vigo and Bridge Piazzetta Vigo is at the end of Corso del Popolo by the port. From the square a picturesque white marble bridge crosses the Vena Canal to the Church of San Domenico. Chioggia also has several medieval churches, much reworked in the period of its greatest prosperity in the 16th and 17th centuries.
